The Nuclear Daiquiri is a modern, uncompromisingly strong tiki interpretation of the classic Daiquiri. Overproof rum meets herb-intense Chartreuse Verte and spicy falernum - the result is sour, complex and anything but tame.

Instructions

  1. Add rum, Chartreuse Verte, lime juice and falernum to the shaker.
  2. Fill with ice cubes.
  3. Shake hard for about 12 seconds.
  4. Double-strain into a chilled coupe.
  5. Garnish with a lime zest.

Garnish: Lime zest

Pro tip: Shake it really well and chill it thoroughly - the strong overproof rum needs enough dilution to become drinkable.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the drink called Nuclear?

The name alludes to the high strength from the overproof rum and the intense Chartreuse - the drink is noticeably bolder than a normal Daiquiri.

Can I use regular rum instead of overproof?

Possible, but then the characteristic punch is missing. For the original, a high-proof Jamaican rum is essential.

What is falernum?

Falernum is a sweet Caribbean liqueur or syrup with lime, almond, ginger and cloves.
