- Pour the Galliano into a heatproof shot glass.
- Carefully layer the hot espresso on top over a bar spoon.
- Lightly whip the cream so it is still pourable.
- Gently pour the cream on as the top layer.
- Serve warm immediately.

Pro tip: The trick to a Hot Shot is the layering - gently pour the hot coffee and the cream over the back of a bar spoon so the layers stay clean.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the shot called a Hot Shot?
Because it is made with hot coffee, making it one of the few warm shots.
Can I use a different liqueur instead of Galliano?
Galliano is the classic choice and gives the typical vanilla-anise note. Alternatives change the character but will do in a pinch.
How do I get the layers clean?
Pour the coffee and cream slowly over the back of a bar spoon directly onto the previous layer.
