The Baby Guinness is probably the most popular party shot with a wink: dark coffee liqueur with a cream-pale Baileys crown that looks deceptively like a mini glass of Guinness. Sweet, quick to make and an eye-catcher at any bar.

Instructions

  1. Fill a shot glass about two thirds with coffee liqueur.
  2. Hold a bar spoon just above the liquid, back side up.
  3. Slowly let the Irish Cream liqueur run over the spoon.
  4. Let the liqueur float on top as a pale foam.
  5. Serve immediately as a shot.

Garnish: None

Pro tip: Pour the Baileys slowly over the back of a bar spoon so it floats on top as a pale foam and creates the typical Guinness look.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the shot called Baby Guinness?

Thanks to the layering, the dark coffee liqueur with the pale Baileys crown looks like a miniature glass of Guinness beer.

Does it actually contain beer?

No, the Baby Guinness contains no beer, only coffee liqueur and Irish Cream liqueur.

How do I get the clean layering?

Pour the Baileys very slowly over the back of a bar spoon, then it won't sink and stays on top as a crown.
