The Attention Cocktail is an aromatic vintage drink from the golden age of the bar that combines gin with dry vermouth, floral Creme de Violette and a touch of absinthe. The orange bitters round off the complex, slightly dry aroma. An elegant stirred drink for lovers of classic recipes.

Instructions

  1. Add gin, dry vermouth, Creme de Violette, absinthe and orange bitters to a mixing glass.
  2. Fill up with ice cubes.
  3. Stir cold with the bar spoon for about 20 seconds.
  4. Strain into a pre-chilled coupe.
  5. Express a lemon zest over the glass and drop it in.

Garnish: Lemon zest

Pro tip: Dose the absinthe sparingly with the bar spoon - it is very dominant and should only underline the drink, not overpower it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Creme de Violette?

Creme de Violette is a violet-blue liqueur with a floral aroma that gives the drink colour and a delicate flower note.

Does the Attention taste strongly of anise?

Only subtly - the absinthe is used very sparingly and merely adds a fine herbal note in the background.

What can I replace Creme de Violette with?

Another floral liqueur such as Creme Yvette is the closest alternative, though it changes the character slightly.
