Tommy’s Margarita is the purist answer to the classic Margarita: no orange liqueur, just tequila, fresh lime and agave syrup. Invented in San Francisco, it emphasizes the pure character of a good agave tequila - fresh, clear and honest.

Instructions

  1. Put tequila, fresh lime juice and agave syrup into a shaker.
  2. Fill up with ice cubes.
  3. Shake vigorously for about 12 seconds until the shaker frosts on the outside.
  4. Strain into a tumbler filled with fresh ice.
  5. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve.

Garnish: Lime wedge

Pro tip: Stir the agave syrup beforehand with a little warm water into a syrup - that way it blends much better with the other ingredients when shaking.

Frequently asked questions

What sets Tommy's Margarita apart from the classic Margarita?

The classic Margarita contains orange liqueur like triple sec, while Tommy's Margarita replaces it with agave syrup. The result is fresher, clearer and emphasizes the tequila.

Do I need a salt rim?

Tommy's Margarita is traditionally served without a salt rim so as not to mask the pure agave and lime note. But a salt rim is a matter of taste.

Which tequila works best?

A high-quality Tequila Blanco from 100 percent agave brings the pure agave note that defines this purist drink.
