The Mexican Firing Squad is a forgotten classic from 1930s Mexico: fruity, dry and pleasantly spicy. Tequila meets lime, grenadine and Angostura. An exciting drink for everyone who wants to discover something new beyond the Margarita.

Instructions

  1. Add tequila, lime juice, grenadine and Angostura to a shaker.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  3. Shake hard for about 15 seconds.
  4. Strain into a tumbler filled with fresh ice.
  5. Garnish with a lime slice and serve.

Garnish: Lime slice

Pro tip: Do not leave out the Angostura bitters - they give the drink the necessary spicy depth and round off the fruity sweetness of the grenadine.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the Mexican Firing Squad come from?

The cocktail became popular in the 1930s at the famous La Cucaracha Bar in Mexico City and was documented by bar author Charles H. Baker.

Which tequila works best?

A clear Tequila Blanco made from 100 percent agave brings the fresh, clear note the drink needs.

Can I make grenadine myself?

Yes, just reduce pomegranate juice with sugar in equal parts - this makes a more natural and less sweet grenadine.
