The Negroni Sbagliato is the airy, sparkling sister of the Negroni: sparkling wine replaces the gin and turns the bold aperitif into a light, lively companion. Bittersweet, elegant and wonderfully uncomplicated.
Instructions
- Fill a tumbler with ice cubes.
- Add Campari and sweet vermouth in equal parts.
- Carefully top up with well-chilled Prosecco.
- Stir very gently once.
- Garnish with an orange slice and serve.
Garnish: Orange slice
Pro tip: Add the sparkling wine carefully only at the end and stir very briefly so the carbonation is preserved.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the Negroni Sbagliato called that?
Sbagliato means mistaken in Italian - allegedly a bartender in Milan accidentally reached for sparkling wine instead of gin.
How does it differ from the classic Negroni?
Instead of gin it contains Prosecco, which makes it noticeably lighter, more sparkling and less spirit-forward.
Which sparkling wine works best?
A dry Prosecco or brut sparkling wine is ideal, as it nicely balances the bitter note of the Campari.
