The Russian Spring Punch is a modern classic from the mind of Dick Bradsell: vodka, fresh lemon and crème de cassis, crowned with sparkling wine. The result is a fruity, festive cocktail with fine bubbles. Ideal for celebrations and special occasions.

Instructions

  1. Add vodka, lemon juice, sugar syrup and crème de cassis to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake hard for about 12 seconds.
  3. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice cubes.
  4. Carefully top up with sparkling wine.
  5. Garnish with fresh berries and a lemon slice and serve.

Garnish: Fresh berries and a lemon slice

Pro tip: Top up with the sparkling wine only at the very end and pour it slowly down the side of the glass so the fine bubbles are preserved.

Frequently asked questions

Who invented the Russian Spring Punch?

The cocktail was created in the 1980s by the legendary bartender Dick Bradsell in London, who also invented the Espresso Martini.

Which sparkling wine works best?

A dry sparkling wine or Champagne Brut works well, as it balances the sweetness of the crème de cassis. Prosecco also works.

Can I use something other than crème de cassis?

Yes, another berry liqueur such as crème de mûre made from blackberries works just as well and brings its own fruity note.
