Frequently asked questions
Which rum belongs in a Mojito?
Classically white Cuban rum is used, for example Havana Club 3 Anos. It is mild and does not mask the fresh aromas of lime and mint.
Why does my Mojito turn bitter?
Usually the mint is muddled too hard. This releases bitter compounds. Press the leaves only gently and the Mojito stays fresh.
Which mint do you use for a Mojito?
Traditionally Yerba Buena is used. Here, ordinary spearmint works best - it is mild and slightly sweet, unlike intense peppermint.
Can you make a Mojito non-alcoholic?
Yes, as a Virgin Mojito. Simply leave out the rum or swap it for a non-alcoholic rum substitute - the rest of the recipe stays the same.
Which glass for the Mojito?
A tall highball glass is ideal, as the Mojito is topped up with plenty of crushed ice and soda.
