Jagertee is the warming classic of the ski hut: strong black tea, aromatic rum and wintry spices make a drink that heats you from within. In the Alps it is part of après-ski like snow is part of the mountain. With this recipe you bring the hut feeling home.

Instructions

  1. Brew the black tea strong and let it steep for a few minutes.
  2. Pour the hot tea into a pot and add the sugar, cloves and cinnamon sticks.
  3. Add the lemon slices and heat briefly, do not boil.
  4. Stir in the rum and keep everything hot.
  5. Strain out the spices and serve the Jagertee in mugs.

Garnish: Lemon slice and cinnamon stick

Pro tip: Brew the black tea strong and let it steep a few minutes longer - the robust tea base carries the aroma of rum and spices best.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Jagertee and mulled wine?

Jagertee is based on black tea and rum, while mulled wine consists of red wine and spices. Jagertee is usually stronger in alcohol.

Which rum is suitable for Jagertee?

An aromatic dark rum works best. For something stronger, use a high-proof Inländerrum, as is common in Austria.

Can I make Jagertee with fruit tea?

Black tea is the classic choice because it is strong and tart. Fruit tea makes the drink milder and fruitier, but it is possible.
