Frequently asked questions
How do I get the foam crown on an Espresso Martini?
The crema comes from fresh espresso and vigorous shaking. Shake for at least 15 seconds with plenty of ice - the oils of the fresh coffee then form the characteristic foam.
Which coffee liqueur works best?
Kahlua is the classic. Alternatives are Tia Maria or a good espresso liqueur. They add sweetness and depth without overloading the drink.
Can I make an Espresso Martini without a coffee machine?
Yes, you can use strongly brewed filter coffee or cold-brewed Cold Brew. The only important thing is that the coffee is strong and fresh.
How much caffeine does an Espresso Martini have?
Thanks to the espresso it contains roughly as much caffeine as a cup of coffee - ideal as a nightcap that keeps you awake.
Which glass do you use for an Espresso Martini?
A chilled martini or coupe glass. Fill it briefly with ice beforehand or put it in the freezer so the crema lasts longer.
