The Vodka Martini is a modern variation of the classic Martini and became world-famous above all through James Bond and his iconic line shaken, not stirred. Instead of gin, vodka is used here with a hint of dry vermouth. The result is a clear, elegant and powerful cocktail for discerning drinkers.

Instructions

  1. Pre-chill the martini glass in the freezer or with ice.
  2. Add vodka and vermouth with ice to the mixing glass.
  3. Stir well for about twenty seconds.
  4. Remove the ice from the martini glass.
  5. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass.
  6. Garnish with a lemon twist or an olive.

Garnish: A lemon twist or an olive

Pro tip: Chill the martini glass in the freezer beforehand so the drink stays icy cold for as long as possible.

Frequently asked questions

Shaken or stirred?

James Bond prefers it shaken, but the Martini is classically stirred so it stays clear and does not get watered down. Both are possible.

What does a dry martini mean?

A dry martini contains particularly little vermouth. The less vermouth, the drier the drink.

Olive or lemon twist as garnish?

Both are common. With an olive the drink becomes more savory, with a lemon twist fresher and more citrusy.
