The Apple Toddy is a warming winter classic from the 19th century, in which brandy is combined with baked apple and hot water into a spicy hot drink. The caramelised fruit and the nutmeg make it especially aromatic. A cosy drink for cold evenings.

Instructions

  1. Put the half baked apple into a pre-warmed toddy glass.
  2. Add sugar and lightly crush with the muddler.
  3. Pour the brandy over it.
  4. Top up with hot water and stir well.
  5. Sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg and serve hot.

Garnish: Nutmeg

Pro tip: Bake the apple briefly in the oven beforehand until it is soft - the caramelised flesh gives the toddy its characteristic depth.
