The Mint Julep is the iconic drink of the American South and inseparably linked to the Kentucky Derby. Bourbon, fresh mint and plenty of crushed ice make a wonderfully cool refreshment for hot days. Its aroma unfolds with the first sip through the fragrant crown of mint.

Instructions

  1. Add the mint leaves with the simple syrup to the glass.
  2. Gently press the mint with the muddler to release the oils.
  3. Add the bourbon and fill the glass with crushed ice.
  4. Stir vigorously until the glass frosts on the outside.
  5. Top up with more crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig.

Garnish: Fresh mint sprig

Pro tip: Only press the mint gently, do not crush it - otherwise bitter aromas are released. It is only about the essential oils on the surface.
