The Deshler is an elegant, almost forgotten classic from the era before Prohibition. Rye whiskey and the fruity aperitif wine Dubonnet form a harmonious duo, rounded off by orange liqueur and bitters. An accessible, aromatic stirred drink with a citrus accent.

Instructions

  1. Pre-chill a coupe.
  2. Add rye whiskey, Dubonnet, orange liqueur and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
  3. Stir cold for about 20 seconds.
  4. Strain into the pre-chilled coupe.
  5. Express the orange and lemon zest over the glass and add as a garnish.

Garnish: Orange and lemon zest

Pro tip: Rub the rim of the coupe with an orange zest before serving - this gives the drink a fresh citrus note from the very first sip.
