The Revolver is the coffee variation of the Manhattan: bourbon meets coffee liqueur and a dash of orange bitters. The result is a bold, roasty drink with dark sweetness and a fine citrus note. Perfect as a digestif after dinner.

Instructions

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes.
  2. Add bourbon, coffee liqueur and orange bitters.
  3. Stir cold for about 20 seconds until the drink is well chilled.
  4. Strain into a pre-chilled coupe.
  5. Express an orange peel over the glass and add it as a garnish.

Garnish: Orange peel

Pro tip: Flame the orange peel briefly over the glass - the caramelized oils noticeably enhance the roasted aromas of the coffee liqueur.

Frequently asked questions

Who invented the Revolver?

The Revolver was created by bartender Jon Santer in San Francisco and is considered a modern classic based on the Manhattan.

Which coffee liqueur works best?

A not-too-sweet coffee liqueur like Mr. Black or a comparable cold brew liqueur harmonizes particularly well with the bourbon.

Can I also make the Revolver with rye?

Yes, rye whiskey brings more spice and bite. Bourbon, however, is classic and makes the drink rounder.
