The Kon-Tiki is a tropical tiki cocktail, named after the famous raft of Thor Heyerdahl. Gold rum, orange liqueur and fresh juices combine with floral honey syrup into a fruity, exotic drink. Balanced and sunny in the glass.
Instructions
- Add rum, orange liqueur, lime and orange juice to the shaker.
- Add honey syrup.
- Shake vigorously with crushed ice.
- Pour into a tiki mug filled with crushed ice.
- Garnish with an orange twist and serve.
Garnish: Orange twist
Pro tip: Honey syrup instead of plain sugar syrup gives the Kon-Tiki a round, floral sweetness - stir the honey beforehand with a little warm water into a liquid syrup.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the Kon-Tiki get its name?
The drink is named after the raft Kon-Tiki of the explorer Thor Heyerdahl and, with its exotic note, fits perfectly into the tiki genre.
Which rum works best?
A gold, slightly caramel rum makes an ideal base for the fruity components.
Can I replace honey syrup with sugar syrup?
That works, but the drink then loses the typical floral, round sweetness of the honey.
