Long Drink
Gin Tonic
How to make a Gin Tonic - the refreshing longdrink classic of gin and tonic water. An easy recipe with ice, lime and the perfect ratio.
The Gin Tonic is probably the most popular longdrink in the world and at the same time incredibly easy to prepare. The interplay of juniper-forward gin and bitter tonic water with its fine quinine note makes it the perfect aperitif. With the right ratio and good ice, you get the maximum out of every gin.
Instructions
- Fill a highball glass to the brim with ice cubes.
- Pour the gin over the ice.
- Top up with well-chilled tonic water.
- Stir gently once so the carbonation is preserved.
- Garnish with a lime wedge and serve.
Garnish: Lime wedge or cucumber slice on the rim
Frequently asked questions
What ratio of gin to tonic is ideal?
Classically 1 part gin to 3 parts tonic water. With a bold gin you can also go 1-to-2, with a mild gin rather 1-to-4.
Which tonic water works best?
A neutral tonic like Schweppes or an aromatic premium tonic like Fever-Tree works well. Choose the tonic to match the botanical profile of your gin.
Why does my Gin Tonic dilute so quickly?
Usually it is down to too little or too-small ice cubes. Large cubes and a fully filled glass prevent fast melting and keep the drink fresh longer.
