The Cynar Julep is a clever twist on the classic Mint Julep: instead of bourbon, the Italian artichoke liqueur Cynar goes into the glass. Together with fresh mint and crushed ice, it makes a refreshingly bittersweet, low-proof drink.
Instructions
- Add the mint leaves to the julep mug.
- Add sugar syrup and lightly press the mint.
- Pour in the Cynar and fill up with crushed ice.
- Stir well with a bar spoon until the mug frosts over.
- Garnish with a mint sprig and serve with a straw.
Garnish: Mint sprig
Pro tip: Clap the mint leaves briefly between your hands rather than crushing them - this releases the aroma without turning it bitter.
