The Caipiroska is the vodka version of the Brazilian national cocktail Caipirinha. Instead of cachaca, vodka is used here, making the drink a little more neutral and approachable. Fresh limes and brown cane sugar provide the zesty, slightly tart note that makes this cocktail a perfect summer drink.

Instructions

  1. Wash the lime, cut it into eighths and add it to the tumbler.
  2. Add the cane sugar and crush both with a muddler.
  3. Fill the glass with crushed ice.
  4. Pour the vodka over the top.
  5. Stir well and garnish with a lime wedge.

Garnish: A lime wedge

Pro tip: When muddling, press the lime only gently without crushing the white inner pith, otherwise the drink turns bitter.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a Caipiroska and a Caipirinha?

The Caipirinha is mixed with cachaca, the Caipiroska with vodka. Otherwise the ingredients and the preparation are identical.

Which sugar is best?

Brown cane sugar is classic and gives a light caramel note. White sugar works too.

Crush the limes only lightly and avoid mashing the white inner pith, which contains bitter compounds.
