Muddler

The muddler crushes limes, mint, berries or sugar directly in the glass, releasing aromas and oils. Without it, no real Mojito or Caipirinha works. What matters is the right length for the glass and a head that presses the ingredients without tearing herbs into bitterness.

What to look for

  • Length: about 20–25 cm reaches the bottom of tall glasses
  • Head: flat or lightly toothed – coarse teeth tear mint too much
  • Material: stainless steel or untreated wood, easy to clean
  • Grip: non-slip handle for safe muddling

Frequently asked questions

How do you use a muddler correctly?

Put the ingredients in the glass and crush with light pressure in a twisting motion – do not grind. For mint, gentle pressing is enough, otherwise the leaves turn bitter.

Wooden or stainless steel muddler?

Stainless steel is more hygienic and dishwasher-safe. Wood looks classic and is gentler on glasses but should only be hand-washed and dried well.

Can I use a spoon instead of a muddler?

In a pinch, yes, but the result is worse. A muddler has the right length and a head that releases aromas more effectively.
